What do three students do in their summer break, who love cycling and just wrapped up their semester of studies? - It’s obvious I guess; they sit on their bikes and cycle all day (and maybe night).
Anna and Raphi had a crazy idea to pack up their bikes (I mean load up with bike-bags) and cycle from Austria to France to watch the Tour de France. The two met on a rainy day in a café to discuss the route and possible checkpoints. Their vision quickly became a plan and they pin pointed possible stops and stay-overs.
The plan is to cycle from Innsbruck to Beaufort in five days. The route is about 800km with 15.000m of elevation, cycling through the beautiful passes of South Tirol (Jaufenpass and Stelvio), passing along the lakes of Como and finally reaching the Aosta region to cross the Italian-French border. The final day will lead over two big mountains with a whooping 4000m elevation to reach our three-day layover spot in Beaufort.
Many great ideas are born when cycling and maybe we will also come up with something crazy during this adventure. But for now our main motivation is to document our experiences and to draw attention to our trip.
We hope that the people following us on our way will be as touched and drawn to the projekt: “Außergewöhnlich” as we were. This café and “lernatelier” is a Vienna based initiative to support kids with disabilities in further development and in the entry to professional life.
As this blog is written there is a remaining of 25.000 Euros missing to launch the project. Our goal would be to collect at least 800 Euros, equivalent to the kilometers to reach our destination.

Außergewöhnlich - Café mit Lernatelier
Our plan is to arrive to Beaufort on the 17th of July, making it possible to watch two Tour de France stages happening in the nearby. On the 18th of July we leave our bags behind and cycle up to Passy to watch the Stage 16 Time Trial.
On the 19th we can finally put our legs up and enjoy the scenic Beaufort as the Tour will go straight through our city.
